Yukon

The first set of pics are from Dawson Creek, BC. I didn't include them in the last post.

Mile "0" in Dawson Creek, BC
We stayed in 4 different places in the Yukon; Watson Lake, WhiteHorse, Burwash and Beaver Creek.  Not too much to report on this lag.  Then we went to Watson Lake, we saw quite a bit of wildlife like the herd of bison below.  There were several herds along the way.  The Kuhane Lake is the most beautiful aqua color.

Whitehorse was our next stop and no pictures, not too exciting.

Next we went to Burwash, Yk.

Fire Weed, along the highways
Out last stop before crossing into the US was Beaver Creek.  We went to a dinner theatre and it was pretty hocky, but the buses come from US and the place is packed with over 200 people.  It is about the Alaska Highway and boy when you see the road and how much work those men had to do make it, wow.  The road is in good condition, some whop de doos, rolls in the road, but over all not bad.  We are going to try to wait until we are back in Canada to get the windshield fixed, its creeping up.

Cracked Windshield
That's it for this update.  We are going to Chena Hot Springs today.  The weather is not great, cool, rainy, grey.  The hot springs should feel good.  I'll report on them later.

Alaska July 29, 2011

Hi, even though the blog is not quite up to date, I wanted to let you know we will be crossing into Alaska in a few hours.  We are sitting on the 30k mark so once we are packed up it won't be long.  Very excited and we plan on spending at least a week touring around.  For those of you who  phone us we will not be available by our cell.  We have a calling card and will call periodically.
Hope your summer is going well.

NWT - the little mistake and on to BC

Hi, when I last left off we were headed to Ft. Liard, NWT for some hiking.  Didn't look far and the Liard Hot Springs were there.  Well the hot springs are not even in NWT and we only went on a walk about in Ft. Liard and travelled on a 50 k gravel road that was under repair to get there and you guessed it, we got a cracked windshield.  Not too bad, but it is creeping up. We can at least say we were in the NWT.

Drove back into BC and stayed in Toad River, BC.  Left the next morning and went to the Liard Hot Springs.  Wow, I've never been in one.  They had 2 pools, the 1st was manageable after a few minutes of creeping in and the top pool was beyond hot.  I thought my ankles were starting to cook. Bill and a few other brave people got into it.  We saw a small brown bear.

On to the Yukon in the next edition.

Alberta to British Columbia

Hi, we left Drumheller and drove to Edmonton for 3 days. Got more chores done, some banking, shopping and stuff like that.  We got a plug in cooler for the truck.  Works well, keeps the beer at the right temp. :)
Had some really weird weather each evening.  The days were sunny and hot and then the black clouds slide in and the rain, thunder, lightening and rainbows happened.  It was a double rainbow and the legs were so colorful.  Did not go to the West Edmonton Mall.  Bill has seen it and I had no interest.  All you shoppers are screaming at me right now.

We then drove to Dawson Creek, BC.  Didn't see any references to the TV show that I thought was filmed here or at least based on.  Yesterday we drove to Fort Nelson.  We left from mile "0" in Dawson Creek and we are now travelling on the famous Alaska Highway.  It was a cloudy, sunny, rainy, windy drive and we also saw rainbows.  The scenery isn't as interesting as our previous legs, a lot of skinny spruce trees and white birch.
We are going to Fort Laird, NWY today.  I've found some hiking trails that look up to our trekking.  Hope the weather holds out. It's overcast at the moment.  I'll have more pix on our next stop.  Didn't have wifi on Wed night so I'm a bit behind.
Getting ready to head out, so till the next time.

Winnipeg Update

Hi. When in Winnipeg we found the water front. There's an area called the Forks where the Assiniboine and Red rivers meet. It's a major tourist attraction with lots of exhibits and shops. There's a walkway next to the river and an amphitheater. Both of these are under water due to the spring rains and flooding. Every time we passed a lake or river in Manitoba and Saskatchewan you could see trees and shrubs partially submerged.  Quite the spring all across Canada and the water levels are still high.

Drumheller

Hi, here are pictures from Drumheller, Alberta.  This is where the largest fossils of dinosaurs are found.  The museum was awesome.  The hoodoos are mushroom shaped pillars of rock that have been carved into unusual formations by centuries of wind and rain. You can see for miles.

The Long & Winding & Dragon Fly Highway

What's up with all the dragon flies out west.  We were being bombarded by them, they were flying towards us and then bouncing off the windshield, poor buggers.  They were mostly in Sask.  We are in AB now in Medicine Hat.  We are heading out soon to Drumheller to visit the dinosaurs.  Seems to be a lot to do there so we'll probably stay there for the night.  Wondering if we can get tickets to the Stampede. I tried yesterday but TicketMaster wouldn't open.

Our driving from Man through Sask was beautiful.  It is very scenic, lots of rolling hills and mountains off in the far distance, could be Montana, not sure.  The colors were magnificent, every shade of green and gold imaginable.  Of course there is tons of Canola being grown, and it is a vibrant yellow.  Flax is purple but we haven't seen it yet.  We think we saw wheat but not really sure looked like dead long grass, somewhat golden.  Hmmm.

Ok, ready to hit the road, Later.

Winnipeg

Hi, arrived last night.  The earth all of a sudden became flat and went forever.  Quite a change in scenery.
Another catch up day, a few lingering chores are done, hopefully that will be it.  Going to do some exploring after the laundry is finished.  I keep wanting to go to the waterfront but I don't think they have one.  Just looked no water.  Big on rye bread here, my fav.  Have to try the perogies too.  Better find a hiking trail.

One more night in TB

Hi, one more night in TB and then we head out tomorrow.  Bill is still cleaning up stuff from Hfx and decided today would be the day.  We did do sightseeing, the Terry Fox Memorial and The Fort Williams Historical Park.  They are dressed in time clothing and play the parts.  I had fun talking with the folks.  They really get into it.  Hot in those clothes.  It is a beautiful 30+ day.  We can't see the northern lights from here but it gets dark around 11 p.m.  Heavy dark curtains on the windows.
Take care, nrm & bam

Thunder Bay

Hi, we are relaxing in Thunder Bay for a couple of days.  The drive up along Lake Superior was spectacular.  We dipped our toes in and that was far enough - brrrrr.  Raining in T.B. as I hear it is in Hfx. as well.  We are heading to Winnipeg - a new province.  I'm trying this one more time, for those of you that commented thank you.  For those of you that tried and couldn't figure it out., sorry.  I think I'll look into a different blog.

Sault Ste Marie

Hi, spending the night here and playing with the Mac and setting up my blog.  This is a test.  Let me know if you can get it.  I just figured out how to attach a picture but I have to send them from my phone. That will be my next project.
